It is a New Year. As we wind down the first month of 2014, there have been some changes in how to find work that are noticeable. We here at Building Team Solutions thought it would be a great way to end the week by sharing the top three tips for finding work in 2014.

#1. Are you really looking for a job or are you looking for a career? This has to be the first question you ask yourself. If you’re looking for a job in the field of engineering know your job search is going to be drastically different than looking for work in an hourly occupation. You have to assess where you are, what your financial circumstances are and what type of work you can currently accept before you even thing about finding employment.

#2. Make a list of the top ten companies you would like to work for and why. This will provide you some guidance as to where to start your search and what type of culture (not just career or job) you are seeking. Next, connect with these companies on social media and start an introduction using this tool before even applying for employment.

#3. Get connected. There is no shame in asking people to post a link to your resume via their social media accounts. Note you would do the same when you send your requests. First, your resume should have a dot com link. Second, having your friends and family repost the link to your dot com link means you are expanding your network of resources. A friend of a friend might know someone who is looking for your type of talent and connect both of you via Facebook!
