I-AM-THE-LEADER-283x300 Are you a good leader? Are you a great leader? One of the challenges of running a company, being in a management or executive position, or just navigating through life is knowing how to lead. During my tenure as the CEO of Building Team Solutions I have developed three ways to help people become better leaders. These exercises worked for me, and I am hopeful they can be of some assistance to you.

First, start with over delivering. Show people that you aren’t happy delivering what others expect. You strive to go above and beyond with your work even through it may not be required. Showing that your vested in your projects by over delivering is a great way to show leadership. Never be happy delivering what is promised. Tell yourself you can do better and others will follow.

Walk the floor. Don’t sit in your office and send emails. Go out into the field. Sit in the employee lunch room and speak with everyone on a one-on-one basis. Be a hands-on manager/boss/executive. Don’t hide behind technology and reports. Get in the trenches and work alongside your employees.

Finally, talk about possibilities with a plan. Don’t just set goals, set expectations on what everyone needs to be doing in order to reach the company’s goals. Most people don’t just get into a car and drive. There is usually some sort of GPS or navigation device to help you get to your destination, right? Right! So, don’t expect employees to get in the car and just drive. Give them the supportive tools and a list of expectations needed to reach goals.

Until next time,
