Here’s the thing – I run Building Team Solutions. I do get asked HR questions day in and day out. But I get a lot of general business questions. I can understand the reasoning as I work with many business leaders in dramatically different industries.

So, is there a secret to success? This is another question I am asked a lot. While the secret recipe has yet to be debated, there are a few ‘Smart’ habits many great leaders have.

For example; being an avid reader seems to be a common thread among the successful. I know what you’re thinking… it is hard enough to find time to shower and sleep when running a company, right? Well, you have to put time aside for reading because it has been proven to expand your ability to problem solve, network, relate and become successful.

Another ‘Smart’ habit is goal setting. Sure, this sounds simple enough, but is it? Setting goals measures your ability to get from point A to point B. If you can’t define how you’re going to do this, how are you going to do it? Think about that for a second before moving on the final habit.

Last, stay up late. Believe it or not, a study found that people with an IQ of 125+ had a tenancy to go to bed between 12:30 and 1:00 am in the morning. The earlier a person went to bed, the lower their IQ was. However, there are some negative health effects of going to bed late, like obesity and heart disease.

If you are looking for the secret to success then read more, set goals and stay up a little later than expected!
