Many CEOs have one thing in common- the need to wake up early. We may dream about sleeping in, but we will never in a million years actually do it. CEOs have a trait that has been studied time and time again. For some unexplained reason we tend to rise early. It doesn’t matter if we sleep two hours or twelve, most CEOs start their days at 5am, some at 4am.

So, what is it about the morning hours that has us almost instinctively rising with the sun? A passion for their work. At least this was the most common answer provided in response to a recent poll. CEOs tend to wake up early, workout and organize the day’s work. They’re not making phone calls, shooting off emails or catching up on work. Instead they’re brainstorming, reviewing reports and planning how to take on the day- and with enthusiasm. If you’re like me, then you know this answer is true!

I don’t agree that people who sleep late aren’t leaders or have no ambition. I do believe they are lacking a certain passion for their work.  But, there are many reasons this lack in passion may be happening. If you know someone who can be a great leader try inviting him or her to wake-up early and meet you at the gym. Maybe you can meet-up at a coffee us and discuss marketing strategy or just shop in general.

Until tomorrow morning,
