If you’re looking for a job or looking to hire, being your best is important. People often say that their days “just get away” from them. This can happen. But there are ways to be more productive in the morning. It does require effort. You will have to adjust your routine, but in the end it is well worth it.

Start with one important thing first. Many people spend their mornings getting tied up with emails. Don’t answer your emails first thing. Instead, start your day accomplishing one important task. It will take some of the pressure off and help you have an optimistic look at the rest of the day’s remaining tasks.

I always say people need to be up early in the morning. More sleep shouldn’t be added on to a morning’s routine  If you need more sleep, go to bed earlier. You should be waking up somewhere around 5:30 am to shower, dress and eat. The, complete one important task before walking out the door. Emails should wait until before or right after lunch.

I also suggest outsourcing a simple morning task to someone else. I use to stop a pick up office supplies every Wednesday morning. In reality, I could have been spending my time better. So, I delegated the task to someone within my office. There is always something on your list that another person can do. Make sure to delegate small items to other people.

What if you’re looking for a job? You can still delegate tasks. If you’re a mom or dad, ask your oldest child, neighbors or family to help make breakfast, lunches or check homework so you can focus on reviewing the company of which you are applying to.

Waking up early is important. It helps rejuvenate the body and puts you a step ahead of others. Remember, don’t get involved with emails right away. They will slow your day own in a drastic way.
