It is never too late to find a job you love. In fact, if you love your work- you will love your life!

I find many people get stuck in this “I have to work” routine. And yes, you are going to have to work in life. But you don’t have to be at a job you hate forever. Set goals. Treat your career goals like recipes, performing one step at a time and don’t expect everything to happen all at once.

You also need to understand what goes in to your successor’s level of achievement. Let’s say you want to manage a bakery. Are you prepared for 3am mornings? Do you understand you may be in the bakery until 11 at night if someone calls out? Do you realize the physical (yes physical) demands of being a baker? Talk with others in your career fields that have achieved what you want to do in life. Know what you’re getting into before making any assumptions.

Finally, taking action is the scariest and biggest step. Like Nike says “Just Do It.” Don’t make any more excuses as to why you can’t have the life and career you desire. Chef Bobby Flay and Wendy’s Founder Dave Thomas are high-school dropouts. Will Smith portrayed a stock broker who went from sleeping in the subways of New York to being one of the best, and most financially successful, traders on Wall Street. Circumstances shouldn’t define who you are expected to be or will become. Circumstances are just your starting point in life.
