worst jobs 2013

Staffing employment positions is our business. We help people in Texas find jobs and we help businesses nationwide recruit employees.  In this industry,  I often hear people complain that there are no jobs out there. Well, the job market is improving. My business is proof of this. However, there are some jobs that many people turn down.  Right now there are over 100,000 jobs available in a particular field that don’t require a high school education. What’s the job? Oil Rig worker. Yes, this field has over 100,000 open positions that pay, on average, $34,000 dollars a year.  So, what’ the downside? This job is dangerous and hard on the body.

Another job that has many openings is being a newspaper reporter. Yes, a newspaper reporter is wanted in nearly every major city right now. Why? Well, these jobs don’t pay very well and are demanding. A Bachelor’s degree is required to make only $34,000 a year. Another reason why there is a huge demand for newspaper reporters is because of the impact of social media. Online newsrooms are quick to aggregate the content slaved over by print journalists, and the shift to the Internet has devastated print media.

While these two jobs have lots of openings, many people are avoiding (or leaving) the industry because the tasks involved don’t match the pay scale.

Let’s start a discussion on the worst job you’ve ever had. Find me on Twitter and I might extend this post later tonight.
