A rejected job application

You know you’re qualified for a job. In fact, you’re qualified and you come with bonuses- like being bilingual or having extra schedule flexibility. You’re a “shoe in” for an interview….. NOT!

Many people faced with the above scenario are qualified for the job and expect the courtesy of an interview. Not all qualified candidates are going to be requested for an interview. We know this is frustrating! So, how do you move beyond this?

Think beyond the gatekeeper!
There really is NO rule stating you have to solely rely on an HR sceener (who might be having a bad day and never really glanced at your resume, or who just had a fight with her boyfriend and you happen to have the same name as him- yes it can get this petty).

If you receive a rejection letter without an interview, and you know you’re qualified for the job, then take the issue to the next level. This doesn’t mean go in to the office demanding an interview. This will get you nowhere. But don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Email the CEO directly, find out where the actual hiring manager has coffee and “bump” into him or her there. Be unconventional and bypass the gatekeeper!

Many business owners and managers love people who think outside of the box. If you can get right to the source, do it. Chances are you will end up back in HR filling out more paperwork, but you will have been noticed- which is way better than having your resume tossed into a pile of countless others.
