back-to-work-FHA

The IRS is closed. The Social Security Administration office is closed! Thousands of people are out of work for an unknown period of time. I’m not going to use this forum to get on my soapbox and talk politics. But I will use it to dissect the numerous ways business and work will be impacted by the shutdown.

First, credit to the Charlotte Observer that said ““Government employees spend money too,” said James Kleckley, an economist at East Carolina University. “They go out to eat, they buy groceries, they get haircuts. So you’re going to hurt spending in the economy.” Here’s the link: Read more here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/09/30/4355819/government-shutdown-would-ripple.html#.Ukrx_IbErKA#storylink=cpy

It is true. Not only are people who have rent due today out of jobs, they can’t spend money. I thought we needed to create more jobs so people could spend money so the economy could recover! Do they have a hashtag yet for #whatisWashingtonthinking?

800,000 federal workers are off the job for an indefinite amount of time. This means they are not getting unemployment and retro pay may not happen, either. My business could see a surplus of people seeking weekly work until their regular jobs are re-established. This means my current roster of job seekers just became more competitive. A bonus for employers seeking highly qualified candidates, but a negative for job seekers who just got out of the “dime a dozen” applicant hole.

“You may see a partial shutdown for several days,” Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Fox News. “People are going to realize they can live with a lot less government.” Read more: http://www.wjla.com/articles/2013/10/government-shutdown-2013-first-effects-will-be-felt-tuesday-morning-94704.html#ixzz2gUGe2RJe

Well, the unfortunate part of the statement Blackburn told Fox news is this; people do need the government. The 800,000+ people who have no job and paychecks being withheld today need the government. The people who have tax issues resolved need the government. Those who can’t work and need to apply for disability do need the government.

This country was founded on working hard. I say it is high time we all got back to work!
