It can happen. All of a sudden you are fresh out of ideas and your business looks grim. It is possible you are stuck in a rut. Generating creativity and motivation to be a “go getter” 100% off the time can be challenging.  I find the following tactics can help you dig out of any rut, especially in business.

First, admit you are in a rut. Make a list of ten reasons why you feel you are in the rut. The next step requires noting which reasons are the top three for being in the rut. Make a plan of action to address each one of the top three reasons. This will help you get motivated again and address any underlining issues.

Have a peer look at your list and see if he or she agrees with your top three. If your peer selects different items, address them. Make a plan of action for each one of the additional items.  Then ask yourself if you would invest in your own company. If you were to buy the company you own or work for, would you? If not, why not? Are you in a rut because of underling issues or are you in a rut because the company is at a standstill?

Again, addressing the issue is more proactive then waiting for your mood to improve. Addressing why you feel you are in a rut or why the company is in a rut will help move both you and the company forward and in a positive direction.

Lastly, what are your employees thinking? Ask yourself this questions and then send a short email out. Make the email mandatory to reply to. Ask your employees to name one item, professionally, that they feel is placing the company in a holding pattern. Tally up the answers and see if they match yours. Even if the answer don’t, it is ok. Any insight is education insight.
