It is a sign of the times. Twitter is starting to become a great way to post jobs, find jobs and connect professionals with great companies. In 2012, 45 percent of companies expect to increase their budgets for recruiting on Twitter and other social networks, according to a recent survey by TweetMyJobs, a Twitter-based job-finding service.

If you are going to use Twitter, or any other social medium, to help amplify your job search, know there is a whole set of new rules to abide by. First, don’t use any funny or inappropriate screen names. Your 160 character profile is important.

Bad example:
“ISpendMoneyGambling”
I hate working, love gambling.
I live on Earth.

Do I need to go into the many things wrong with the profile example above? Employers will never hire “ISpendMoneyGambling”, regardless how much experience he or she has!

Great example:
“JenniferDoughExecutiveAssistant”
Professional EA who loves learning new things.
Dallas, Texas *can relocate

The example above tells an employer many things in a concise manner. The profile is inviting and gives an employer a lead to look into.

Next, use a Twitter app specifically to connect you to people within your industry.  Listorious.com can help you find and follow people currently in your preferred occupation or industry. Network, network and network some more using this app. You never know who is hiring or who knows someone else that is.  Social media is easy to use and isn’t THAT time consuming if handled properly. This is one app that can help land you a job, or at least open the door to an opportunity.

The last thing you should do is utilize the hashtag feature on Twitter. The hashtag (#) can help you seek out specific employment opportunities. For example, searching #forkliftdriver, will help you review all items related to that specific term. This search may lead you to the right hiring manager or staffing firm that has a position for a #forkliftdriver.

Looking for work is a job by itself. Use today’s innovative technology to help you find the next and best opportunity for you!
